Welcome to Hillstone Labradors, where our love for the breed drives everything we do. Thoughtfully bred Labradors from health-tested, proven bloodlines, with an emphasis on breed type, sound temperament, structure, and the qualities that have defined the Labrador Retriever for generations.
Our Breeding Philosophy
We believe a Labrador should be unmistakably a Labrador — not only in appearance, but in temperament, soundness and character.
Our breeding decisions begin with the Labrador Retriever breed standard, but they don't end there. We consider structure, movement, temperament, health clearances, genetic testing, pedigree, longevity, strengths and weaknesses within a family of dogs, and what each individual may contribute to the next generation.
Conformation is one of the tools we use to evaluate our dogs against the breed standard and alongside other quality Labradors. Health testing gives us information to make more informed breeding decisions. Pedigree research helps us look beyond the individual dog standing in front of us.
We don't believe producing puppies, even beautiful ones, is reason enough to breed. Every Hillstone litter begins with a purpose: to preserve what is good, improve where we can, and make thoughtful decisions with the next generation in mind.
None of these things alone makes a breeding dog.
Our goal is the whole Labrador: a dog that is beautiful and recognizable in type, sound in body and mind, good-natured, biddable, capable, and above all, a pleasure to live with each day.

Actions, not words.
Responsible breeding has become easy to claim and difficult for puppy families to evaluate. We don't believe families should simply have to take a breeder's word for it.
At Hillstone, our philosophy is reflected in what we do: comprehensive health testing, thoughtful pedigree research, evaluation of our dogs against the Labrador Retriever breed standard, careful selection of breeding pairs, intentional puppy raising and socialization, thoughtful placement, and lifetime responsibility for the dogs we produce.
Health testing cannot guarantee a perfect dog. A show record cannot guarantee a perfect breeding dog. A pedigree cannot guarantee a perfect litter. Breeding living animals will always involve variables we cannot completely control. What we can control is the care, research, honesty and intention we bring to every decision.
Preserving the Labrador Retriever
Hillstone breeds the three colors recognized by the Labrador Retriever breed standard: black, yellow and chocolate.
Our commitment to preservation includes breeding toward correct Labrador type and temperament and making decisions consistent with the breed standard. We DNA test for the dilute gene and do not produce dilute-colored Labradors.
For us, preservation means respecting the Labrador we inherited while taking seriously our responsibility for the Labrador we leave behind.
Why We Breed
There is no shortage of dogs in the world. We believe bringing another litter into it carries an obligation.
For us, that means breeding selectively and intentionally. Our goal is not to produce more Labradors simply because there is demand for puppies. It is to preserve and, where possible, improve the qualities that generations of careful breeders have worked to establish.
Every breeding should have a reason.
We ask what a pairing may contribute to the next generation, where the strengths and weaknesses of each dog complement one another, what we know about the dogs behind them, and whether the resulting puppies have the potential to move our program — and the breed — forward.
And our responsibility does not end when a puppy leaves Hillstone. We remain committed to the dogs we produce throughout their lives.
The Hillstone Commitment
We want Hillstone families to know not only where their puppy came from, but why that puppy was bred.
That means being transparent about our dogs, their health testing and pedigrees. It means raising puppies with intention, evaluating them as individuals and helping families find the puppy whose temperament and potential best fit their lives.
And it means being here after puppy pickup — through questions, milestones, challenges and all the years that follow. A Hillstone Labrador will always have a home at Hillstone.
